When I started planning my adventure around the world without flights, diabetes management was one of the most critical aspects.
I won't hide it, the concerns were so many.
As already mentioned several times the support of my diabetes specialist, Dr. Genovese of Multimedica Group in Milan, was of fundamental importance.
When he realized I was serious, he started to show me the possibility of starting this trip with a sensor for continuous glycemic monitoring.
I'm so entered into the world of sensors and their management. Immediately I realized the benefits for such an adventure, but unfortunately in Mongolia a faulty cable has broken the instrument.
Thanks to Abbott Italy in Nepal I was able to receive a new one that helped me a lot in the daily management of food at a time when I was drastically changing my eating habits.
In Nepal, the food was really bad and I started a vegetarian diet that I follow also in these days.
Meanwhile, there were rumors on the internet about the advent of this new revolutionary sensor called Abbott Freestyle Libre. Dr. Genovese with support from Abbott Italy was therefore able to make me have one. What we did not expect was to be able to receive it only in the Andaman Islands, a paradise, but with big logistics problems and slow internet connections.
But we did it, we had a skype video conference that has allowed us to have, thanks to Monica Bulgheroni, the support needed for the initial installation and for operation and setting of the device.
In the video I tell you how were these first 48 hours, including beautiful landscapes, swimming in the sea, diving and tropical heat.
From my point of view this device has exceeded my expectations fully: it is lightweight and does not feel in contact with the skin. No more prinks, not even to calibrate it. Just hold the device to the sensor and I know immediately your glycemic level and its trend. In addition, I can download the data and be able to have a glycemic profile allows clear and simple, with the support of doctor, to take all appropriate measures to better manage daily.
For the life of every day and for an adventure like mine where I often find myself in places of dramatic hygiene is of great help.
